Energy Prices (Mid May 2018)

 

Electricity:  

Following the discovery of 31 new cracks it has been confirmed that the Hunterston B plant will remain in extended shutdown for several months. The discovery has resulted in some jitters regarding the state of some other ageing nuclear plants especially Hinkley B, which is of the same age and design.

Production of US oil has been predicted to increase by more than 11% over the next 12 months, the US Energy Information Administration has confirmed that this could equal more than 1.2 million barrels/day.

Gas: 

Preparation has begun for the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline with dredging work off the German coast. When completed this will be the second direct gas link between Russia and Western Europe.
